THE RESURRECTION STORIES
		-from the NIV Bible (1973)
Original Christians did not believe in a physical resurrection, but rather that Jesus was brought to heaven,
and then "a risen Jesus" was seen in visions, just like the visions of Stephen (Acts 7:55) and Paul in the New Testament
Our earliest Christians writings, the 10 letters of Paul (50-58 A.D.) contained in the New Testament, never mention
Jesus being resurrected in Flesh; Paul never mentions empty tombs or physical appearances. In Galatians 1:12&16
&Acts 9:3-6 he states that he first met Jesus in a "vision" on the road to Damascus, not in flesh. Then in 1Corinthians
15:6-8 Paul states how Peter, James, the Twelve Disciples and hundreds of others saw the "risen Jesus" in
essentially the same type of "vision" he saw. Moreover, when we examine the Gospels closely, it is obvious that the
physical aspect of Jesus' resurrection was a growing legend. For example, Mark was written first between
65-70 A.D.; we can see that Mark 16:9-20 was never part of the bible; however, in an effort to make the growing
legend appear more believable, we have Bible writers inserting verses that never existed in the original text.
For example, first Mark is written and then Matthew is written with the addition of a huge "earthquake" and then
one angel and then two angels and so on and so forth. Finally, John is written last and in a very valiant effort
to create evidence that the resurrection was physical, he adds many details about nail marks (John 20:20,25)
What probably happened was after Mark was written in 70 A.D., Christians groups were faced with redefining
their community. This is because Jerusalem fell to the Romans in 70 A.D. and it was a very difficult time
for earlier Christians; therefore, scripture flourished.

				The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins
				will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these
				things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed  with power from on high."
				50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he
				was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshipped him and returned to
				Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
